Yoga was not always part of my life, but I have always had fitness present in some form throughout my life. I am actually an Economist by trade. I have found Yoga on one of my business trips and fell in love with it instantly. I used to work in International Development and Management Consulting, which required long working hours, a lot of international travel and being away from my family for extended periods of time. My work was extremely hard but enjoyable - I was able to work with developing countries to improve their economies, improving the livelihoods of their citizens. What I was initially surprised about was that I could always find a Yoga class in whatever part of the world I was in - in away Yoga became one of very few things that were constant in my life.
On the top of the obvious physical benefits, Yoga helped me find a better balance in life - and becoming a Yoga Teacher was at the back of my mind for a while, before I finally decided to take a leap of faith and do it! It was not easy, I decided to leave my full time employment and took time to rethink my next steps. But everything happens for a reason and I am glad I took that step. Because spreading love for Yoga is something I really enjoy doing.
I have completed a 200hr training in Vinyasa (Frame Academy), 200hr training in Hatha, Rajadhiraja, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga (The Himalayan Institute of Yoga) as well as a 100hr Ashtanga (Divine Yogarpana), 50hr Assisting & Touch Methodology and a short 20hr sequencing training (both from the Sunday School of Yoga).
In my Yoga classes, I put a lot of emphasis on the smooth flow and proper alignment as well as having a bit of fun with some of the poses. I teach dynamic, yet accessible flow classes, and my focus is on making Yoga available and accessible to people of all levels and backgrounds! My classes feature creative and flowing sequences linked to breathwork that strengthen and flex the mind and body. Having experienced the life changing benefits of Yoga through my own personal practice, I try to encourage my students to be open to the vast aspects and benefits of Yoga. My goal is for my students to leave my class feeling empowered, refreshed, and renewed.
I place a lot of an emphasis on the fact that Yoga is for everyone - you do not need to have a gymnast or dance background or be flexible to do it. All you need is a willingness to practice Yoga!
In addition, a few years ago I discovered I have severe intolerance to lactose. In my blog, you will find my journey to lactose free eating and an odd recipe.
